  • Open catheter.
  • Generously coat the distal portion of the catheter with lubricant.
  • If female, separate labia using non-dominant hand. If male, hold the penis with the non-dominant hand. Maintain hand position until preparing to inflate balloon.
  • Pick up catheter with gloved dominant hand. Hold end of catheter loosely coiled in palm of dominant hand.
  • Identify the urinary meatus and gently insert the catheter.
  • Gently push catheter and monitor the procedure with fluoroscope.
  • Remove the stainless steel stylet after the catheter placed on proper position.
  • For drainage purposes, connect catheter to drainage system and for injection purposes connect catheter to syringe.
